The Broadway sits inside the North Village Arts District, and hosts a myriad of Artwork for your viewing pleasure!
3 murals are shown here, but more artwork exists at the hotel! Each of these murals is by a local artist and is big, bold, and colorful, reflecting the City of Columbia.
Located at: 1111 E Broadway, Columbia, MO 65201
At the entrance of the Broadway Hotel, you'll find a striking artwork by local artist Lisa Bartlett. “Jazz Singers” is 11 x 14 and printed on vinyl. It captures her expressionistic style and serves as a testament to the collaboration between the Broadway Hotel and the former Roots N Blues music festival.
Lisa is a board member of the North Village Arts District, has a studio at Orr St Studios, and owns Artlandish Gallery, a fine art and fine craft gallery.
Lizzie Bryan and Maura Mudd’s mural “Cosmopolis” is meant to embody the spirit of Columbia's first rooftop bar. It has a few buildings in the backdrop that are recognizable signature Columbia structures - Jesse Hall and what locals call “The Duck Church” (as it resembles Donald Duck), right across the street from the Broadway Hotel.
This work was created during Mudd and Bryan’s participation in a local art group, “The Easily Distracted Art Collaborative,” in 2014. This mural sits in The Roof’s inside lounge area.
Maura Mudd and Lizzie Bryan’s mural, “Martinis in Space”, created in 2015, was designed to embody the modern feel of The Roof, having drinks at an elevation closer to the planets and stars in our universe than any other place in Columbia. The application was completed solely with Graffiti paint, a grid system, hand-cut stencils, and brush work.
Eventually, an incident occurred, requiring the wall to be repaired. As a result, the mural was updated with a vinyl print of its previous appearance (see images below)
This mural sits in front of the elevators at the entrance of “The Roof”- the bar and lounge with a beautiful view, that sits atop The Broadway Hotel.
